Project Overview

In response to seasonal flooding and stagnant water challenges in Akenpai Community, Yenagoa, Jillian Integrated Resources Limited was commissioned to execute a critical water channelization project. The aim was to restore free flow of water, prevent erosion, and improve accessibility for the local population during the rainy season. This project forms part of our ongoing commitment to sustainable civil works that improve lives and strengthen community infrastructure.

The Challenge

Akenpai, like many communities in the Niger Delta region, suffers from poor drainage and water retention caused by overgrown swamp vegetation, unchanneled runoff, and low-lying terrain. These conditions result in: Frequent flooding during the rainy season Restricted movement for residents and essential services High risk of waterborne diseases due to stagnant pools Environmental degradation and loss of arable land The terrain’s marshy nature and heavy vegetation made access difficult, requiring a tailored approach to environmental excavation.

Our Solution

Jillian Integrated Resources deployed specialized earth-moving equipment to the site, with a focus on precision excavation and minimal disruption to the surrounding ecosystem. Our team: Cleared and deepened existing natural waterways Created a structured channel to guide water away from residential areas Removed silt, debris, and vegetation that obstructed flow Reinforced critical points to reduce erosion and overflow risks Through a combination of engineering precision and local expertise, we successfully restored natural water movement while preparing the area for long-term flood resilience.
